The Mediating Role of Loneliness in the Relation Between Preference for Solitude, Social Competence, Self-Esteem and Depression in Emerging Adults

This study aims at testing the relation between emerging adults’ preference for solitude, social competence, self-esteem on one side and depression other with mediating role of loneliness. The group is composed students that were studying various faculties state universities in Turkey 2019-2020 Academic Year determined by easily convenience sampling. 508 students, 279 whom female 229 male, participated study. Data collections tools used are Beck Depression Scale, UCLA Loneliness Scale Short Form, Preference Solitude Two-Dimensional Self-Esteem Perceived Social Competence Scale. findings current indicate there a positive association loneliness, whereas negative relationship loneliness tendency solitude as well competence. Furthermore, show predicts statistically significant level.
